PMC (Portable Media Center) is Microsoft's platform to play video, audio and photo on the go. Its screen is bigger than iPod, although the resolution is the same at 320x240. It is bulkier. It uses Windows WMV format for the video and WMA or MP3 for audio. It uses Windows Media Player to sync with the PC.

Examples of PMC hardware from third parties include Creative Zen PMC, Samsung Yepp YH-999 and iriver PMC-120 .

WMP doesn't accept all the video in your collection, and even if it accepts it, it may need to convert the videos first before syncing, which is time consuming.

It can convert from un-encrypted DVD, from individual chapters or several seamless chapters as one unit.
